One person has been rescued and nine others are still missing one day after a wooden fishing boat capsized in waters off the coast of east China's Shandong Province, rescuers said Wednesday.

The accident happened at around 3:00 a.m. on Tuesday in waters near Shidao Port and all ten people aboard went missing, according to North China Sea Salvage Bureau.

The North China Sea Salvage Bureau received the accident report at 2:25 p.m. Tuesday and immediately sent a rescue vessel to the site.

Rescue work was initially hampered by the turbulent sea and rescuers could not approach the boat until Wednesday morning.

Rescuers located one crew member trapped in the cabin and managed to pull him out to safety after opening a crack in the ship's bottom.

The rescued crew member has been hospitalized and rescuers are still searching for the nine missing.

The cause of the accident is not clear.
