Poll: most netizens want longer Spring Festival holiday

A Mmjority of netizens agree with a NPC deputy's suggestion to extend the Spring Festival holiday, according to a poll by People's Daily Online.

The poll was launched to find what people think about the suggestion made by Li Jing, a NPC deputy and mayor of Emei city.

Li said it is necessary to make the Spring Festival holiday longer as it is the most important holiday for the Chinese people.

At present, the legal holiday for the Spring Festival is thre days. As of March 6, a total of nearly 23,500 netizens participated in the poll, and 77 percent said longer holidays help to ease pressure on transportation and promote harmony in families.

Only 10.8 percent said an overly long holiday will affect work.

A netizen named Duanpeiyao said, "The suggestion is great as it speaks our minds. I hope this can be implemented as soon as possible."
