Ningxia reduces runoff into Yellow River by 40 million tons

The amount of desertified land in Ningxia has been reduced by 733 square kilometers over five years, the soil erosion control level in the region is close to 40 percent and the amount of annual runoff into the Yellow River has been reduced by 40 million tons of mud and sand, according to the Forestry Sector in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.

Ningxia afforested a total of more than 4,000 square kilometers in five years. A total of nearly 3,850 square kilometers of woodlands, shrub forests and immature forests were brought into the management and protection of the Natural Forest Protection Project.

A total of more than 4,000 square kilometers of key public welfare forests have been brought under the scope of the national and local forest ecological benefit compensation fund. An investment mechanism has been basically established, which mainly includes investments from the government, and also Ningxia is actively implementing the desertification control foreign aid projects, which have attracted a total of 110 million yuan of foreign aid funds.
