Five dead, five injured in pileup in central China

A road accident in central China's Hubei Province has left five people dead and another five injured, local police said Wednesday.

A heavy-duty truck collided head-on with a motorcycle at about 12 a.m. on the Zhijiang section of the National Road 318, killing the motorcycle rider instantly, according to police in Yichang.

After the accident, a car carrying five people hit the truck from behind, killing two passengers in the car and injuring the driver and two more passengers.

Then a farm utility vehicle crashed into the truck, killing two more passengers and injuring the driver and his wife.

The injured victims were rushed to an area hospital for treatment. The police said that three people are in serious conditions.

Currently, the police are investigating the cause of the accident and are searching for the truck driver, who fled the scene.
