Transport system to serve 2.8 billion over Spring Festival 2011

The number of passengers transported nationwide will reach 2.8 billion people during the 2011 Spring Festival, increasing 11.6 percent compared to the number of passengers last year, according to the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).

There are a total of 40 days during the Spring Festival transport period, starting on Jan. 19, 2011 and ending Feb.27, 2011.

It was reported that among the passengers, 230 million people will travel on the railway system, and 255.7 million people will travel on the highway system, an increase of 12 percent. An estimated 35 million will use water transport, up by 6 percent, while 32.2 million people will use aviation, an increase of 10 percent, during the Spring Festival.
