An arsonist convicted of setting an airport shuttle bus on fire was executed in central China's Hunan Province Thursday, said local police.

Chen Haitao, 36, set the bus on fire as it traveled from Huanghua International Airport of Changsha City to the city proper on July 21, said a municipal police spokesman.

Two people were killed, three seriously injured and 11 others slightly injured in the blaze.

Chen was detained by police on July 22, and was sentenced to death by the Intermediate People's Court in Changsha, the provincial capital, on August 13.

Chen committed the arson to revenge society as he had "blamed his business failure on social injustice," the court said in a statement.

Chen was injured in the fire and sent to hospital where he was later seized by police.
