Latest goverment figures show that the number of AIDS cases in China is on the rise, with unprotected sex fueling the increase. A boost in migrant worker infections is also drawing attention.
The Ministry of Health says about 370,000 people around the nation are living with HIV, including 130,000 AIDS patients. The overall death toll has risen to 70,000 up to the end of this October. The report shows that unprotected sex has become HIV's main transmission mode in China.
The percentage of infections caused by male-male sex has almost doubled, from nearly 6 percent two years ago, to about 11 percent this year. Meanwhile, more migrant workers have also become HIV carriers. Experts forecast that the number will keep climbing, but the rate will slow down.
