China's Justice Minister Wu Aiying said Tuesday that the judicial administrative departments should improve Party building among law firms as the country's law profession develops.
The departments should better uphold the leadership by the Communist Party of China (CPC), Wu said at a national lawyers' work conference.
China now has more than 194,000 lawyers and 16,900 law firms, according to a document released at the conference.
The number of lawyers who are also CPC members increased from 44,000 in June 2008 to 53,000 this September, the document said.
Party building work had been conducted in all Chinese law firms, and every law firm has its own Party organization, or a joint Party organization with other firms, the document said.
