The Chief Executive of Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), Chui Sai On, Friday said that the SAR government will increase its investment in local education, creating a better environment for the teachers and students.

The SAR government attaches great importance to the development of local education through its policy drafting, resources allocating, and even its efforts to enhance local teachers' social status and incomes, Chui said, at a public function on the Chinese Teacher's Day.

He said that the government is more than willing to listen to the opinions from all walks of the society, especially the teachers, on local education and will adopt relevant measures to boost the educational development.

The number of teachers engaging in Macao's higher education was 1,812 while those teaching in pre-primary, primary and secondary education totaled 4,847 during the 2008/2009 academic year, according to the latest figures from the SAR government.

Chui also expressed his hope that local education workers can continue their effort to promote quality education and contribute to the prosperity of Macao.
