HK business group CGCC donates 1 mln HKD for mudslides-hit Zhouqu County

Hong Kong's leading business association, Chinese General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC), Friday donated 1 million Hong Kong dollars (128,700 U.S. dollars) to mudslides-devastated Zhouqu County in northwest China's Gansu Province.

CGCC Chairman Jonathan Choi handed over the donation check to Huang Lanfa, deputy head of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Hong Kong.

Choi said he felt sorrow and sympathetic with the victims in Zhouqu, and hoped that they could rebuild their homeland soon. Huang expressed gratitude to Hong Kong's organizations and communities for their support to mudslides-affected people.

Also in the day, CGCC vice Chairman David Fong, who is also managing director of Hong Kong's Hip Shing Hong Group, donated 100, 000 HK dollars to Zhouqu via the Liaison Office.

Rain-triggered mudslides swept through Zhouqu early Sunday, leaving at least 1,144 people dead, with 600 still missing as of 4: 30 p.m. Thursday, Gansu provincial department of civil affairs said late Thursday. (1 U.S. dollar equals to 7.77 HK dollars)
