The average wage rate in Hong Kong in March rose 1.9 percent in nominal terms over a year earlier, Hong Kong's Census and Statistics Department said on Thursday.
About 58 percent of companies reported an increase in average wage rates, while 34 percent saw decreases. The remaining 8 percent reported no change.
After discounting the changes in consumer prices as measured by the Consumer Price Index, the overall average wage rate for all the selected industry sections surveyed fell 0.6 percent in real terms.
The index of payroll per person engaged for all the industry sections surveyed increased 1.1 percent in nominal terms in the first quarter over a year earlier.
After discounting the changes in consumer prices as measured by the Composite Consumer Price Index, the average payroll per person engaged fell 0.7 percent in real terms in the first quarter.
