Green food output near 100 million tons in China

The output of green food, referring to organically produced foods, was near 100 million tons in China, the domestic sales of green food reached 316.2 billion yuan and gross exports reached 2.16 billion dollars, said Chen Xiaohua, the vice minister of China's Ministry of Agriculture, at the third round congress of the Green Food Association in Beijing.

With the development of agricultural brands, the promotion of agricultural standardization and the industrialization of agriculture, green food has become the focus of China's rural agricultural economy.

According to reports, from 1990 to 2009, the number of green food enterprises increased from 63 to more than 6,000, and the products increased form 127 to nearly 16,000. The average annual growth rate reached 27 percent and 29 percent, respectively.

There were 432 green food large-scale standardized production bases of raw materials with a total area of 69,000 square kilometers, which cooperated with 1,140 leading enterprises, benefiting 13 million peasant households and directly increasing the income of peasants by more than 650 million yuan every year.
