China rural migrant workers number nearly 230 million

In 2009, 145.3 million rural migrant workers worked outside their hometowns for a period over six months and almost 84.5 million worked within their hometowns for a period over six months, according to a report by the Department of Rural & Social Economic Survey under the NBS.
The report shows that the average monthly wage for China's rural migrant workers who work outside their hometowns rose 5.7 percent in 2009, amounting to 1,417 yuan.
