A concert featuring the Grammy Award- winning cello master Yo-Yo Ma and his Silk Road Ensemble will be staged at the Macao Cultural Center in April this year, the Macao Post Daily reported on Thursday.

The upcoming concert in Macao is part of the Silk Road Ensemble's Asian tour. The group will also stage its performance in Seoul, Taipei, Bangkok and Singapore, the newspaper said.

Being one of the most-revered cellists of the 20th and 21st centuries, the Parisian-born Chinese musician and the Ensemble will take the audience on a journey through the ancient and enigmatic music, with music treasures used along the actual Silk Road, according to the report.

The Silk Road was an ancient network of trade routes connecting the East, South and Western Asia with the Mediterranean world as well as North and East Africa and Europe.

Ma founded the Ensemble in 1998, with the aim to promote collaboration among artists and institutions, while also promoting and studying the ebb and flow of ideas among different cultures along the ancient routes.

The Ensemble gathers renowned musicians, composers, visual artists and other artists from more than 20 countries.
