Hong Kong's Financial Secretary John Tsang proposed on Wednesday to inject 3 billion HK dollars into an anti-drug fund campaigning against drug abuse.
An additional fund of 52 million HK dollars was allocated in 2010-11 in response to the government's anti-drug policy, said Tsang in his annual budget speech. To encourage the community to join hands in combating drug abuse, Tsang then proposed to inject 3 billion HK dollars into the Beat Drugs Fund.
"The money, together with donations from different sectors, will yield a larger investment return to the Fund and enable it to increase its annual funding for the community to make an all-out effort in taking forward various anti-drug initiatives," he explained.
