Huailai County in Hebei province recently issued a carbon-free city construction declaration, stating that it would build China's first carbon-free city in Donghuayuan Town which lies in the southeast of the county, according to a report from Hebei Daily.

According to plans, the carbon-free city will occupy an area of 6.4 square kilometers and have a population of 25,000. The clean energy industry will become the pillar industry, and the creative and wine industries will become supplementary industries in the city. A large carbon sink consisting of an ecological corridor, a wetland park and red wine bodegas can realize a dynamic balance between the carbon source and the carbon sink.

In the future, Huailai County will strive to develop and promote the deployment of photovoltaic solar energy, wind energy and biomass energy technologies, adopt low-carbon planning and low-carbon buildings, and create a satisfying environment characterized by a balance between the carbon source and the carbon sink.

At the same time, it will encourage more people to travel by foot, new energy-powered vehicles, and buses to advocate an environmental-friendly low-carbon and healthy lifestyle in order to better promote the county economy and realize scientific development.
