Four people were killed and two injured Monday after their vehicle plunged into a river in Yunnan Province, police said Tuesday.
The sedan carrying six people, including a newly married couple, veered off the road in Mengla County of Xishuangbanna into the Nanla River at about 9:40 p.m., an officer with the county's traffic police unit said.
Two people died at the scene and another two died on the way to hospital.
The driver and a passenger received slight injuries, which were not life-threatening.
The car was badly damaged.
Blood tests confirmed the driver had been drinking alcohol said county publicity official Hu Rongjie, but he would not say whether the tests showed the driver was over the legal blood-alcohol limit.
Police officers are investigating the cause of the accident.
