On the evening of September 14, the last rail of the Jinghe—Yining—Korgas railway was laid at the Korgas Railway Station, marking the completion of Xinjiang’s first electrified railway.
With a total investment of 6 billion yuan, the Jinghe—Yining—Korgas railway extends 286 kilometers from Lanzhou—Xinjiang Railway's Jinghe Railway Station westward along the northern foot of Tianshan Mountain, crossing Nilka, Yining and Huocheng Counties and Yining City to finally reach Korgas Port on the border.
The Jinghe—Yining—Korgas railway took four years to construct and is expected to be put into operation in November. As Xinjiang’s second international railway, it will become a major transportation route connecting western Xinjiang to Central Asia and will play an important role in Xinjiang's economic development, energy transportation, and national defense.
