Police during a July crackdown arrested 3,311 suspects who allegedly forced, abetted, harbored or introduced women to prostitution, the Ministry of Public Security said Tuesday.

By the end of July, police has cracked 2,503 cases related to prostitution, including 363 cases involving minors, the ministry said.

A total of 457 criminal gangs were broken and another 40 suspects were arrested for underage sex offences.

On June 26, police launched a three-month nationwide campaign to clamp down on prostitution-related crimes ahead of the 60th anniversary of the founding of New China on Oct. 1.
