Yeh Chin-chuan, chief commander of the epidemic command center, stated on the morning of May 4 that the British National Health Service (NHS) will provide the new influenza vaccine to Taiwan starting May 20. It is estimated that Taiwan will commence mass-production of the new influenza vaccine in three months.
At present, there are a total of 44 persons under investigation in Taiwan, 33 of whom were not infected with the flu virus, and the remaining 11 are still under examination.
On the morning of May 4, a Taiwanese businessperson suffering a fever of 39 degrees Celsius was detected at Taoyuan airport when he returned from a country in Central America. He was immediately transported by ambulance to the negative-pressure isolation room in Taoyuan General Hospital.
According to the Bureau of Disease Control in Taiwan, it has been preliminarily determined that the individual, after undergoing a 30-minute fast inspection, was not infected with the H1N1 flu virus and the results were negative.
