A man was taking three women hostage with a knife inside a pawn shop in Fuzhou, capital city of southeast China's Fujian Province, local police said Monday morning.

The hostage taking began at around 8 a.m. and the incentive was not clear at the moment, a police officer told Xinhua.

Police have cordoned off the shop and ambulances were summoned to the site.
