China's Ministry of Railways and the city of Tangshan recently reached a consensus that construction of the Beijing-Tangshan high-speed railway will begin before October 1, 2009.
Once the project is completed, it will take only half an hour to get from Tangshan to Beijing by train. The Beijing-Tangshan intercity high-speed rail project will be jointly invested in and constructed by Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei Province. The train will be able to travel at a maximum speed of 350 kilometers per hour. The traveling time from Tangshan to Beijing will be shortened to just 30 minutes after the high-speed railway is completed, allowing Tangshan to effectively become a member of the "capital's half-an-hour economic circle."
