At least 17 workers were killed and another badly injured after a lifter suddenly crashed to the ground at a construction site in central China's Hunan Province Saturday.

The accident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. at the construction site of a real estate project named "Shanghai City" in downtown Changsha, the provincial capital, according to the municipal government.

The project was developed by Hunan-based Dongfanghong construction group, which was established in 1965.

The injured has been sent to hospital.
