As the financial crisis spreads around the world, environmental hot issues attract people's attention. On December 22, the Center for Environmental Education and Communication under China's Ministry of Environmental Protection released the list of ten major global environmental thought-provoking highlights of 2008.
The ten major highlights include, China's Environmental Protection Administration upgraded to the Ministry of Environmental Protection for better promoting scientific development, global climate change triggering frequent natural disasters, the Beijing Olympics honoring its green commitment, the rapid development of renewable energy, Wal-Mart's announcement of its Green Supply Chain Initiative in Beijing, the financial crisis gaining time for sustainable development, the Asia-Europe Meeting announcement of Beijing Declaration on Sustainable Development, and the 14th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
