Three Gorges Project, for the first time, will carry out an experiment of 175m water impoundment in middle September, which will improve the navigation conditions along Yangtze River and in Three Gorges reservoir area, and increase shipping efficiency of the Project, according to news from Yangtze River Water Resources Commission and China Three Gorges Corporation.

After the impoundment, water level of Three Gorges reservoir will rise by 19m from the original 156m.

So far waterway's recondition work in lower reaches of Chongqing Jiulongpo has been fully completed, and meets all standards for the experiment. Now the waterway has reached the construction level required in Three Gorges Project's original design and 10000-tonnage fleets can sail to Chongqing in the river.
