The Olympic Games will be broadcast in the languages of ethnic minorities in Xinjiang simultaneously, said Kurexi Maihesuti, vice chairman of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Government, here Friday.
Residents may listen to or watch sport events through 52 radio channels and 64 TV channels, he said at a press conference.
In Xinjiang, every ethnic group with a population more than 100,000 has radio and TV channels in their own language including Uygur, Han, Kazak, Kirgiz, Mongolian and Hui. Meanwhile, there are also programs for smaller ethnic group such as Xibo.
"We have lots of professional interpreters of ethnic languages. All sport events will be interpreted simultaneously to enable ethnic people to watch the Games," Maihesuti said.
