Special designs have been made for the fireworks during the August 8 Opening Ceremony of the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. The spectacular performance will create a more festive atmosphere of jubilation and extend a "smiling" welcome to spectators.
According to officials responsible for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics, fireworks showing 2008 smiling faces will be released into the sky when 2008 pictures of smiling faces are displayed at the opening ceremony at the Bird's Nest.
And a computer-controlled system will display fireworks presenting a yellow dragon and red peonies.
The officials said they had tried to add Olympic elements into their designs. For example, the shape of the Olympic Rings will be tailored into fireworks.
"The fireworks will be a dazzling combination of various designs, creating a joyous and festive atmosphere of jubilation," said Wang Ning, executive deputy director of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies Department of the Beijing Olympics Organizing Committee at the press conference Wednesday, July 23.
