From July 1 this year, Beijing's 470,000 urban unemployed residents of working age can get health insurance to cover serious illnesses. In one year, medical insurance reimbursement can reach 70,000 yuan at maximum. Low-income residents and those who are severely disabled can receive free treatment, according to Beijing Times.
Yesterday, the Beijing City Labor and Social Security Bureau issued "Views on the Implementation of the Establishment of the Health Insurance System for Beijing's Urban Unemployed Residents of Working Age." Beijing will be the first provincial-level city to provide residents full coverage as implemented through a medical insurance system.
An official of the Municipal Labor and Social Security Bureau said that this health insurance system covers people who meet all of the following requirements: first, he/she must be registered among Beijing's non-agricultural households; second, he/she is of the legal working age and is not covered by the Urban Employees' Basic Medical Insurance System; and third, men should be between 16 years old and 60 years old and women need to be over 16 years old and under 50 years old. When this system is implemented, the annual grants from the state are expected to reach 140 million yuan.
