According to the China Science and Technology Museum, the museum's new hall, now under construction in the National Olympic Park, will partially open to the public during the Olympic Games with a thematic exhibition of "Creations and Inventions in Ancient China." The new hall is expected to officially open in October 2008.
According to Xu Yanhao, curator of the China Science and Technology Museum, currently, the main building of China Science and Technology Museum's new hall, with a construction area of 102,000 square meters, is generally complete. The construction and improvements in the outer and inner parts of the new hall are ongoing, as well as the preparations for exhibitions and scientific educational activities. "The Greatest Scientific Discovery and Technical Invention" event has already been initiated. It has been organized by the China Science and Technology Museum and selections will be made by scientists and the public alike; and the 40 scientific discoveries and technological inventions ultimately selected will be the new hall's permanent outdoor display. Currently, the public can log on (online) and cast their votes.
It is understood that nearly 3,000 square meters of the new hall's area will be put into use before the Olympic Games in Beijing; and after the construction is completed, China Science and Technology Museum's new hall will become the largest scientific education venue in China.
