In a Vancouver City Council meeting on February 26, a special ceremony identified June 1 this year as “Ms. Feifei Day.” Mayor Sullivan personally presented the "Award Certificate,” praising the recently deceased Hong Kong artist, Shen Dianxia.
Sullivan said that Ms. Shen Dianxia become a Canadian citizen in the early 1980s, and choose to settle in Vancouver. Over the years, she became active as a volunteer in local charities; and won the love of the community.
Chinese-Canadian city councilman Mr. Li Bajia told reporters that June 1, Shen Dianxia’s birth date, has been selected as “Ms. Feifei Day,” after discussion with the Shen family. Another Chinese-Canadian city councilman, George Chow, said that the municipal government finally decided on “Ms. Feifei Day,” rather than "Shen Dianxia Day," because “Feifei " is the "nickname everyone is familiar with.”
