China's largest biogas project, the 20,000 cubic meter Minhe biogas project in Shandong, has recently been successfully connected to the grid. This is the first Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project which has been registered in Clean Development Mechanism Executive Board, United Nation's Framework Convention on Climate Change, with the annual revenue 6.3 million yuan.

It is reported that this biogas CDM project has been purchased by World Bank for 10 years. It will handle 180,000 tons animal waste, produce 10.95 million cubic meters methane and 250,000 tons organic fertilizer, while generating electricity for 21.9 million Kwh and reducing greenhouse gases by 67,000 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent gases.

By now, China has 652 CDM registered projects in fields like wind power, hydropower, biomass and landfill, accounting for 34.8% of the total number worldwide. Annual emission reduction is 180 million tons, accounting for 58% of the total number. In agricultural sector, there are three successfully registered CDM projects, among them, Hubei Enshi rural household biogas project is the first domestic household biogas CDM project.
