The Construction of Fuqing Nuclear Power Plant, China's ninth nuclear power plant, started on November 21.
The Fuqing Nuclear Power Plant is located on the Strait's western coastline in Fujian Province. The plant lies at the foot of Qiwei Mountain, near Qianxue Village, Sanshan Town, Fuqing. It is planned to be equipped with six sets of 1,000 megawatt generators, and will receive a total investment of around 100 billion yuan.
This is the first key large-scale project to be implemented following the central government's 4 trillion yuan plan to expand domestic demand in order to guarantee growth in China.
Industry experts estimate that the development of local secondary and tertiary industries will accelerate once the nuclear power plant is put into operation. Nuclear power and wind power related energy will become another big industry in Fuzhou. Fuqing will also become a burgeoning energy base on the Strait's western coastline and it will become environmentally-friendly using clean energy from diverse sources.
