The First China-US environmental science and technology cooperation seminar, offered by the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology and the United States Environmental Protection Agency, opens today in Beijing. Participating environmental scientists will explore greater cooperation in three areas: secure and safe drinking water, new technology and identifying environmental technology, and green communities.
Liu Yanhua, vice minister of Science and Technology, said that China's environmental pollution has become complex; and environmental science and technology work was placed at an unprecedented height. It is hoped that through these seminars we can encourage China's scientific research institutions to establish a long-term and stable strategic partnership with the United States Environmental Protection Agency national laboratories and research centers; and to cooperate in research and development projects.
The seminar is the first important activity between the two sides since October 2006, when the United States signed the "Memorandum on environmental science and technology cooperation".
