The first phase of the Ningde Nuclear Power Station Project, officially listed within China's "medium- and long-term nuclear power development plan (2005-2020)," begins construction on Monday.
The Station, 143 km north of Fuzhou, the capital of Fujian, and 113 km south of Wenzhou, is located at Beiwan village in the town of Qinyu, Fuding, Ningde City, Fujian, with an investment of 27.6 billion yuan in its first phase.
The project is set to fix 6-gigawatt (GW) reactors. Two pressurized water reactors, each with a one mega-kW capacity, will be set up during the first phase.
The plants, under the charge of Ningde Nuclear Power Co., Ltd., will be operational around 2012. The technology adopted will reach international leading level and with a comprehensive localization rate of 70%.
