A senior Chinese official has called for efforts to accelerate the transformation of economic development pattern in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, according to an official statement Xinhua received Saturday.

Wang Gang, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, made the remarks during a recent study tour in Inner Mongolia.

Wang visited enterprises, farms, research institutes and farmers' homes in Ordos, Baotou, Hohhot, Manzhouli and Hulunbuir on July 4-9.

He urged efforts to speed up economic restructuring, balance the development of different regions and pay more attention to resources conservation and environmental protection.
