A senior Chinese military official Sunday urged the country's armed forces to unswervingly follow the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and pursue the path of the socialism with Chinese characteristics.

Xu Caihou, vice chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks while addressing a theoretical seminar held in Beijing to commemorate the party's 90th founding anniversary on July 1.

Xu called on the military and armed police to study in a serious manner a speech delivered by Hu Jintao, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and also chairman of the Central Military Commission at a ceremony that marked the CPC's 90th founding anniversary.

Further, he urged the armed forces to well adopt a scientific outlook on development and strive to break new ground in boosting national defense and the modernization of the army.
