Senior Chinese official Li Changchun said on Wednesday that more efforts should be made to promote the positive values that were fostered during relief operations for the devastating 2008 Wenchuan earthquake and the region's subsequent reconstruction.
Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, hailed the country's relief operations after the quake, which left more than 80,000 people dead or missing, as a "miracle".
Every household in the quake-hit area was presented with a new apartment and employment options, and the area's economic development and environmental protection have both made progress, Li said.
China can claim a sweeping victory for its quake-relief operations and post-quake reconstruction, he said.
Li stated that more attention should be given to those who contributed to quake-relief operations and reconstruction efforts, hailing them as "role models".
Li made the remarks while attending a meeting during which significant achievements regarding quake-relief operations and reconstruction were discussed.
Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang was present at the meeting.
