China briefs foreign attaches on defense white paper

A total of 115 military attaches from 81 countries on Thursday listened to a briefing in Beijing on China's newly issued white paper on national defense.

The document, the seventh of its kind the Chinese government has issued since 1998, aims to enhance military transparency and boost the world's trust in the country's commitment to peaceful development.

Qian Lihua, director of the Foreign Affairs Office with the National Defense Ministry, introduced the content of the white paper titled "China's National Defense in 2010" and answered questions on China's defense policy, armed forces and military diplomacy.

Qian said the white paper spelt out that China will always stick to the path of peaceful development and its national defense policy is defensive in nature.

The white paper also displays the latest achievements of China's national defense and construction of the armed forces as well as the efforts of the Chinese army in safeguarding world and regional peace and stability, Qian said.
