The sixth round of talks between the mainland-based Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS) and the Taiwan-based Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) is to be held between Dec. 20 and 22 in Taipei, the two institutions announced Tuesday in Shangahi.

The two sides planned to sign a medical and health cooperation agreement during the upcoming talks, they said.

They would also reach a consensus on a cross-Strait investment guarantee agreement, which is an important part of the follow-up negotiations after the cross-Strait Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) took effect in September, according to the two institutions.

The ARATS and SEF are the two institutions respectively authorized by the mainland and Taiwan to handle cross-Strait affairs. They resumed talks in 2008.
