During the course of China's contemporary social development, the Communist Party of China (CPC) has led the Chinese people across the country to pioneer a path with special Chinese characteristics and accomplish great development achievements through long-term and difficult explorations, particularly through persistent efforts in 30 years of market-oriented reforms and opening to the outside world.

Reviewing and summarizing China's development path in a philosophical manner may conclude many revelations, which may help the Chinese continue to explore and advance in a new historical stage.

The first revelation is the unity of social and human development. Human development should be the ultimate goal of social development and it can only be achieved through promoting social development.

The second revelation is the unity of valuing objective laws and giving play to subjective initiatives. Promoting social development should not only value social and historical objective laws, but it should also give sufficient play to subjective initiatives.

The third revelation is to adhere to the principles of liberating thoughts, seeking truth from facts and changing with the times during the course of practice. To achieve the two unities (the unity of social and human development and the unity of valuing objective laws and giving play to subjective initiatives), high importance should be attached to practice while giving play to subjective initiatives.

History proves that it is not easy to pioneer a new road. Plenty of issues seen in the process of establishing and developing socialism in China are unprecedented and difficult to solve. Since the opinions of those from all walks of life on the issues cannot be unified in one step, there inevitably are various types of doubts and disputes. This requires that the course of practice be arranged and handled properly, so the course may unfold step-by-step in accordance with its own development logic and help to gradually deepen understanding.

During the 30 years of market-oriented reforms, China has followed such a course of practice and accomplished the achievements today by deepening understanding while practicing, "drawing conclusions while exploring, managing to cross the river by feeling the stones," liberating thoughts, seeking truth from facts and changing with the times.

China's reform and development is certainly a long-term, historical task and has many difficult barriers to overcome. The development goals in various respects have not been accomplished and the grand blueprint of building a moderately prosperous society in all aspects and achieving the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation has not been completed. Therefore, we should still continue to strengthen understanding and practice along the new path.
