A senior Communist Party of China (CPC) leader has called for efforts to boost public security and ensure that people live and work in peace and contentment.

In an article to be published Tuesday in the magazine Qiu Shi (Seeking Truth), Zhou Yongkang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, said more efforts should be made to maintain social harmony and stability.

Qiu Shi is the official publication of the CPC Central Committee.

Zhou said people were looking forward to living in a more peaceful social environment and there were heavy tasks to maintain social harmony and peace.

Efforts should be made to address the new demands and challenges and innovation should be embraced in the overall management of public security work, he noted.
