Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping called for the country to maintain economic development and social stability amid global economic turmoil, through the second round study of the Scientific Outlook on Development.
Xi, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks during an inspection tour of Henan province from Tuesday to Friday, at enterprises, villages, universities and citizen communities.
He said in order to maintain the development speed, China should put more effort into optimizing the economic structure, lowering energy consumption and further protecting the environment.
Also the government should better deal with the unemployment issue for school graduates and migrant workers, improve the social security system, and solve problems for the public.
Xi also stressed the importance of Party building at a grassroots level, which would provide a strong guarantee for the innovation and development work in rural areas.
On the eve of China's traditional Tomb-sweeping Day, the Qingming Festival, the vice president also paid a visit to the memorial hall of Jiao Yulu, a former county Party secretary who devoted his life to improving the living standards of people in Henan province's Lankao county.
"No matter whether it is the present, past or the future, Jiao Yulu is the person whose dedication spirit is the lasting power for China's party officials to go forward," Xi said.
