Chen Daoming, CPPCC member:

Every outbreak of financial crisis brings great opportunity for cultural prosperity. I hope that every one in this field will take this opportunity to contribute to promoting the great development of the cultural cause.

Huang Hong, CPPCC member and famous artist:

Cultural workers should work steadfastly, immerse themselves into real life and spend time and effort experiencing and reflecting. People need spiritual food and the financial crisis brings opportunity for great cultural development and prosperity. However, whether a favorable environment exists for cultural work is very important. The proposal that I have prepared is related to this issue.

Li Ruiying, CPPCC member and news announcer:

With regards to the development of society and the economy, it is also very important to properly spread Standard Chinese. Therefore, I hope that greater effort will be made to popularize the use of Standard Chinese. The recent popularity of so-called “non-mainstream culture” indirectly reflects an improvement in social tolerance. In fact, we should not draw an artificial line between mainstream and non-mainstream cultures. I think that both are acceptable as long as the original intentions are good.

Xu Peidong, CPPCC member and renowned composer:

My greatest concern is the environment in which the cultural realm develops, since the development and prosperity of the cultural realm relies on a sound environment. This year is the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, and there will be 15 large-scale celebrations sponsored by the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee. Writers and artists should have a sense of responsibility and mission in order to produce more great works.
