A special gift for Premier Wen

The photo shows Premier Wen calling Xu on a cell phone to express his gratitude after receiving the special gift and wishing the student a happy Chinese New Year.

On January 31, while he was in Madrid meeting with the staff at the Chinese Embassy in Spain and overseas Chinese and students studying abroad, Premier Wen Jiabao received a special gift - an oil painting entitled "Nestling Up." The picture was painted by a young man from an earthquake-stricken area in Sichuan Province.

When Xu Jinjing, a student from Sichuan studying in the Department of Arts at the University of Salamanca, learned that Premier Wen would visit Spain, he decided to put great efforts into this oil painting which took him two days. The painting is based on a news photo taken by a Xinhua News Agency reporter when Premier Wen directed the disaster relief campaign at Beichuan Middle School. In the news photo, two little girls who had just experienced the huge earthquake in Wenchuan, Sichuan Province, are nestling up closely to Premier Wen.

Since the university where Xu studies at is far from Madrid, he could not make it there in person to present the painting to Premier Wen. Wu Hua, another Chinese student, at the University of Madrid, helped him to fulfill his wish.
