The Ministry of National Defense held a Lunar New Year reception for more than 260 military attaches from over 80 foreign countries in Beijingon Monday.

The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) would step up military reform with Chinese characteristics, expand friendship with military forces all over the world and provide more opportunities for diplomats to understand and learn more about thePLA, said Qian Lihua, the director of the ministry's foreign affairs office, speaking on behalf of Defense Minister Cao Gangchuan.

Cao and other senior military officials joined the attaches in watching performances by army artistic troupes.
