The ship-based helicopter from the Wenzhou, a member ship of Chin's 8th naval escort squad, conducted target practice on May 15 in the Gulf of Aden, Somalia sea area.
At 9: 18 a.m. local time, a ship-based helicopter took off from the Wenzhou and flew to the simulated target. The helicopter found and locked on the target from a distance of 2 kilometers
When the helicopter approached to within 1 kilometer of the target, it fired three times and effectively hit the target.
After finishing the attack, the helicopter withdrew and flew back to the Wenzhou, where it landed on the deck safely under the commander's orders at 9:45 a.m.
Guo Xichun, the helicopter's captain, said the target practice not only enriches the tactical contents of the whole escort squad, but also promotes its ability to react quickly. Since pirates have been quite rampant recently, the helicopter must achieve shocking effects using its weapons to warn and drive pirates away.
In addition, this was the first target practice for the whole escort squad of China’s navy in the Gulf of Aden.
