Chinese geologists discovered 38 oil and gas fields at the bottom of the South China Sea and there are plans to exploit them this year, said Wang Min, vice minister of the Ministry of Land and Resources, at the China's national geological work meeting. It is reported that the 38 oil and gas fields are "extra thick oil and gas-bearing strata."
Wang Min also said the Ministry of Land and Resources will implement a comprehensive examination of the geology and environment at the key sea areas, including the northern areas of the South China Sea, southern parts of the Yellow Sea and the coastal waters near the Hainan Island.
