"The World University Rankings 2009" compiled by the British "Times Higher Education" and other organizations was recently revealed. In the 2009 list, U.S.-based Harvard University ranked first for a sixth consecutive year; UK-based Cambridge University replaced U.S. Yale University to rank second, and Yale University dropped to third place. Of the top 10 universities in the 2009 list, six are in the U.S. and four are in the UK.

The University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the Chinese University of Hong Kong all remained in the top 50. Of them, the University of Hong Kong ranked 24, second only to Japan's Tokyo University in Asia.

Tsinghua University has made clear progress in the list, climbing to 49th in 2009 from 56th in 2008.

The list ranks universities in terms of academic performance, assessments from graduates' employers, the internationalization degree of students and professors, teacher-student ratio, references from academic papers and other aspects, and it is one of the most authoritative university rankings.
