Lenovo made public its first corporate social responsibility report in China yesterday at a press conference in Beijing to mark the Olympic torch relay through Chengdu.

"At the special time today, we announced for the first time the Lenovo (China) 2007 Corporate Social Responsibility Report based on our social responsibility strategy and social welfare program last year," said Chen Shaopeng, senior vice-president of Lenovo Group and president of Greater China and Russia.

"We wish to share with and gain feedback from our friends to improve our practices," he said, adding that Lenovo would do a good job in implementing its social responsibility to become a company being proud of by the Chinese and respected in the world.

Eight Lenovo torchbearers for the relay in Beijing and Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province, attended the press conference.

Lenovo announced that a 5 million yuan donation from its global employees will be used for the re-construction of Jialing No 1 Middle School of Guangyuan, Sichuan province. At the same time, the company recommended five quake heroes from Sichuan to be Lenovo nominated torchbearers for the Paralympics.

Lenovo has helped the flame travel to 21 cities outside the Chinese mainland, and more than 100 domestic cities over more than four months, said Chen. "We have widely spread the Olympic spirit. The Lenovo brand has also been distinctively promoted in the world. The Lenovo Olympic torch relay program has gained fruitful results," he said.

To uphold the concept of Olympic science and technology benefiting the public, Lenovo launched various torch souvenirs to allow more people to remember the Olympics.

After the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad announced its standards for choosing torchbearers, Lenovo immediately proposed its concept of choosing those who explore the Olympic spirit and contribute to the construction of harmonious families.

To meet its social welfare programs, Lenovo conducted wide exchanges with people in overseas relay cities through social welfare activities. They helped disseminate the spirit of Chinese people's longing for peace and friendship.

In addition, the torch design team attended press conferences on five continents and introduced the Olympic Torch - Cloud of Promise - symbolism and Chinese culture. Lenovo hosted charitable auctions in more than 10 cities and all funds raised were donated to social welfare organizations.

Domestic activities of Lenovo include organizing torchbearers to visit Hope Schools and hold a simulated torch relay, delivering free environmentally friendly bags to local residents and presenting IT equipment to entities and individuals that gave outstanding response during quake relief efforts.

Lenovo also announced the name list for the torch relay in Chengdu and Beijing yesterday.
