Chen Shui-bian announced here Saturday evening that he resigned his post as chairman of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) due to the party's failure in Taiwan "legislature" election.

According to the election agent, the DPP won 27 seats of the total 113 in the election while the Kuomintang (KMT) got 81 seats.
